ANNUAL ALUMNI MEET

So, it is October and time for the annual meet. As is the practice, alumni meets are planned in major cities on Oct 14, 2006. Hope all have seen mails on this but just in case you have not, here is the schedule:

The Forces Come Together!!!!!!!!!!!

On the 16th of Spetember, 2006, we had the 2nd Alumni Regional Vice Presidents’ meet at the IMT-Ghaziabad campus where representatives from all the zones were present. The meeting was chaired by the President of the Alumni Association of IMT Gaziabad, Mr. Rajeev Karwal (Batch of 1984) and the Director, Dr. B. S. Sahay and went on from 10:30 am to 4:35 pm. The VPs present were VP-West, Mr.Sanjay Mehrotra (Batch of 1982), VP-East, Mr.Jalaj Gupta (Batch of 1995), and VP-South, Mr.Debashis Das (Batch of 1996)). Mr.Manoj Kaushik (Batch of 1992) from Mumbai and Mr.Rajesh Kumar (Batch of 1998) from Chennai were also present to extend their support. We were also joined by Head US Chapter, Mr.Krish Dhanam (Batch of 1984) from the US via teleconferencing. The meeting could not be attended by VP-North, Mr. Ajay Nigam (North Zone-Batch of 1982) and Co VP-North,Mr. Sushil Baveja (Batch of 1984) due to their prior commitments. This gathering was an extension of the initiatives undertaken by Alumni Relationship Committee (Alcom), to facilitate the alumni to stay connected to Institute OF Management Technology, Ghaziabad and each other.

The agenda of the meet was to:

¨ Promote brand IMT
¨ Highlight the “super league status-Top 10” given to IMT Ghaziabad by the AIMA Survey
¨ Organize a US chapter meet
¨ Start a Canada Chapter
¨ Initiate the formation of a co-branded Credit card.
¨ Have a Marketing Summit consisting of speakers from the Alumni of IMT Ghaziabad in the month of March 2007 along with the Annual Convocation
¨ Discuss Sponsorships for the All India Alumni Meet of October 14th, 2006
¨ Initiate the Alumni Mentorship Programme program
¨ Work on Short Term Projects for students, to be arranged by the Alumni
¨ Organize four Zonal meets
¨ Presentations by the vice presidents of the four zones
¨ Outline the local chapter activities
¨ Define the target for the next two months

The meeting started with Mr.Dhanam who offered insightful inputs to focus the Board’s attention on recommending strategies that would enhance the Alumni committee’s vibrancy and start the US chapter operations on a big functional scale .As a step in this direction it was decided to consolidate a database of the rich pool of Alumni based in the US and consequently to organize regular meets and informal get-togethers. The objective agreed upon by all the members was to make the IMT Alumni community thrive on an unequalled level of volunteer initiative and effort- nationally as well as internationally.

The meeting was also attended by Ms. Shubhi from ICICI Bank, who is a colleague of Mr. Kaushik. She gave a presentation provided the necessary details that are required to formulate the Co-branded Credit Cards. Thus a decision to initiate the process to have the credit card was taken.

Mr.Karwal stressed the need for updating the alumni database and requested the Vice presidents of the four zones (north, south, east and west) to correspond with the appointed batch coordinators on this issue.

All the four VPs made a presentation with a common running theme of organizing more chapter meets in order to bring the alumni closer together for social initiatives, professional development and continuing education.

The issue of increased alumni-student interface was taken up seriously, and the Alumni Mentorship Progamme was prioritized as an important part of the execution plan. Mr.Karwal and Dr.Sahay asked Alcom to get started on the project immediately with the full support of the VPs.

As a continuing initiative of the Alumni engagement, Alcom put forth the request for assistance on getting the students short term projects that would not only add value to the students but would also contribute to the institute’s credibility as a resource and research centre of academic excellence. This request was approved unanimously by the Board and the project will get all the required support to turn it into a success story.

The Annual Alumni Meet that is going to be held on the 14th of October, 2006 in Ghaziabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai was also discussed, along with the confirmation that Mr.Jagdeesh Seth would be asked to give a lecture that day. Also, the 5 centres would be connected to each other through video conferencing on the auspicious occasion.

The marketing summit to be held in March-April 2007, was discussed and Mr. Karwal highlighted the importance of this conference and said that it would be an excellent opportunity for IMT to make a statement on a national as well as a global platform about the impact that our alumni have in leadership roles in the area of marketing across all sectors in India and around the world.

The meeting was a success and ended on a high sounding note. The energy in the room was high and everyone walked out feeling more motivated and committed towards the common goal of getting the joint forces under one umbrella- the Super League B-School IMT Ghaziabad.

Sunil Kataria

If your search is for a Business wizard who can turn around your company or a Marketing genius who can successfully drive your organization’s venture into untested territory, then Sunil Kataria, IMTian of the batch of 1990, would give a run for your money.

All through his career, Sunil has time and again proved his leadership to build new products and markets. Sunil, who currently is Vice President Marketing at Blowplast, the Marketing arm of VIP Industries, is building strategies to stay ahead of the global giant Samsonite. With the stratagem to segregate the mass and premium brands, Sunil is setting up separate retails outlets for V.I.P’s retail venture in premium brands (Carlton, Delsey) and is also beefing up the export business. With a new logo and new range of offering the luggage major recently introduced a range of luggage’s targeting the Indian women.

Prior to his stint with the luggage industry, Sunil was Director – Marketing with Modi Enterprise. He was instrumental in setting up the Modi Online Lottery (Sunshine India Lottery) and created a differentiation in the lottery domain by creating a strong brand with a unique set of values that consumers can identify with.

Previously, Sunil was General Manager, Marketing, Marico Industries Ltd and was working with the Healthcare division.

Akhil Dayal

With over two decades of experience, Akhil Dayal, IMTian of the batch of 1986, is Director at Deloitte Consulting LLP. With a legacy of strong leadership roles and strong focus and deep expertise in consulting, Akhil have been working with Deloitte Consulting since 1994. Akhil's career with Deloitte Consulting began as a Senior Consultant and he specializes in Public Sector Industry and more specifically with Information Technology engagement with Health & Human Services.

Akhil joined Tata Infotech (then Tata Burroughs) in 1986 after IMT. During his three and a half years stint with Tatas, Akhil worked in the areas such as software development and support for public sector businesses. Except for a 1.5 month stint at Central Customs & Excise, New Delhi and a 3 month stint in Mexico City, Akhil was in US developing and executing technology transformations.

In 1990 Akhil joined Syntel Inc and was based out of their Headquarters in Troy working with their Unisys Division. In addition to the overall profitability of the division, Akhil's responsibility included Sales & Marketing and hiring of developers.

Akhil is married for the last 18 years and have 2 kids Rishab & Ashna.
